Rwanda home work assiment

1. What factors led to the genocide in Rwanda in 1994?

Some factors that led to the genocide in Rwanda was when the death of the Rwandan president Juvenal Habyarimana occurred . His death was caused by a plane crash where someone shot his plane down in 1994 above the Kigali air port on April 6.The current Rwanda president was blame for the attack who was at the time the leader of a Tutsi rebel group.The current president deny that he was apart of this attack and blamed it on some people called the Hutu extremists. These events all led up to a break out of arguments and violence that spread through out the country and didn't end until 3 month later.

2. What was the time frame of the 1994 genocide and how many people died?
Tutsi and Hutu's were fighting even before the death of their president because the Tutsi were thought to be better than the Hutu's . In 1916 they made identity cards that classified the groups by their ethnicity.For the next 20 years after this, the Tutsi were treated better than Hutu's because they were thought to be better. Soon the Hutu's began to get angry and in 1959 they started riots which led to the death of 20000 Tutsi. Many of them fled to other countries in order to get to safety. When the Rwanda Independence was granted in 1962 the Tutsi were betrayed and the Hutu's were now in their pace.

3. What were some of the after effects of the genocide?
Some after affects of the genocide where the deaths of many innocent people. Peoples lives were destroyed because of this. Tutsi and Hutu's were being slaughtered and even the leaders of political opposition were murdered. Recruits were sent to killed more people. It caused two million Tutsi to leave to a different country. Even when the genocide was over five million people were dead. The government was led by Tutsi and they wanted to wipe out the Hutu's.
